Pt. Mallar is a leading name among the young Tabla-Maestros of India today.

Born in 1968, Pt. Mallar was brought-up in a well-known musical family. From his very childhood, Pt. Mallar has learned the Tabla from his legendary father, PADMABHUSHAN DR. JNAN PRAKASH GHOSH.

Learning and realizing the innermost messages of Tabla in its entirety has always been Pt. Mallar's passion. For the last 25 years Pt. Mallar spent long hours for the practice, cultivation and development of this great percussional art.

Pt. Mallar is an 'A' graded Tabla-performer of the All India Radio. He gives performance (both Tabla solos and accompaniments) on Radio and Television regularly and participates in chain-musi-concerts and Radio Sangeet Sammelans arranged by All India Radio in different major cities of India.

Pt. Mallar has participated in all the major music festivals of India. Apart from his solo performances, Pt. Mallar has accompanied on Table a galaxy of great classical vocalists and instrumentalists of India.

Pt. Mallar has toured extensively all over India, the countries of Europe, the USA, Japan and Bangladesh.

Pt. Mallar has many audio discs to his credit.

Recently Pt. Mallar has founded JNAN PRAKASH GHOSH TABLA FOUNDATION, an institution of Tabla of which he is the founder secretary.

Pt. Mallar is the head of the Department of Tabla of SUR NANDAN BHARATY, Kolkata. Pt. Mallar is professor of Tabla and a member of the Executive committee of the SARBA BHARTIYA SANGEET SANSKRITI PARISHAD, Kolkata. He is also the head of the department of the Music-Faculty of the UTTARBANGA CHARUKALA KENDRA, West Bengal

Pt. Mallar has been awarded the 'OUTSTANDING YOUNG MUSICIAN OF THE YEAR AWARD-1996', conferred on him by the Calcutta Junior Chamber for his contributions and eminence in the field of Tabla.

'DRUMS OF INDIA - III', a Composite-Percussion-Ensemble', is Pt. Mallar's latest creation, has been profusely appreciated by connoisseurs all over the country and abroad.

Pt. Mallar's DRUMS OF INDIA- III reportire include mostly all the percussive drums of India such as the TABLA, PAKHWAJ, MRINDGAM, GHATAM, SRIKHOLE, KHANJIRA, NAKARA, DHOLOK, BANGLA DHOLE, DHAK, MADAL, KANSOR, MANDIRA etc. Pt. Mallar has also initiated the SHANKHA, the BANSURI, VOCALS and PHONETIC-RECITATIONS in the 3rd PART of the DRUMS OF INDIA series.

For this performance during CONMAT 2003, Pt. Mallar Ghosh will be accompanied by following participating artists.
